sharkfucker420, in Metaverse hype fizzles out as Korean tech giants pull plug
@sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml avatar

There was hype?

SlopppyEngineer,

Within the billionaire bubble there was a lot of hype. Outside of that, not so much.

A new platform to colonize, gathering info on what people were looking at in the virtual world and selling that to advertising made their wallets go very erect.

BentiGorlich, in Brazil shuts BYD factory site over 'slavery' conditions
@BentiGorlich@gehirneimer.de avatar

I think the destinction between the chinese firm constructing the site and BYD itself is quite important here. I am absolutely not a fan of chinese car manufacturers but its just not the same as if BYD was operating the site right now and this news came to light

asret,

If you outsource your work, you outsource your reputation. BYD is absolutely responsible for the conditions of the workers.

This is only a problem if you subscribe to nitro in the first place. Rookie mistake!

So if you add 10 million more bots @ $22/a month that's a lot of money laundering.

hperrin, in X jacks up Premium+ prices 37.5%, hits some markets harder

I feel like the people who pay for Twitter are probably dumb enough to pay whatever price the muskrat wants, so why not make it $200 a month?

LostXOR, in ruh roh

The whole idea that it violates the terms of service of a company to not let them show things on my screen without my consent is insane. It's like if every time you went to the grocery store, the employees held you down and force fed you a free sample, then banned you from the store when you started running away from them.

daggermoon, in Mozilla partners with Ecosia for a better web | The Mozilla Blog

Unless they make Ecosia the default search engine in Firefox, this is worthless.

DreamlandLividity,

This is preparation for that in case google loses its appeal and is forbidden to pay Firefox to be the default.

daggermoon,

Am I wrong for hoping that happens?

DreamlandLividity,

Idk, on one hand I get what you mean. On the other hand, Firefox going away or being monetized in more aggressive ways will not be a good thing.

Honestly, I think I would prefer the lawsuit never happened and Google kept paying Firefox. Now, if Google loses, Firefox will likely head for enshitification. And if google wins, it sets terrible precedent :(

helpmyusernamewontfi,

The whole thing is FOSS. if the company goes over the community can still maintain it if they wish to
