NineMileTower, in jointhefediverse.net - Why was Lemmy removed from the list of fediverse alternatives?

So, I should quit Lemmy now too?

Well, not to shit on the idea too much, but right now as of posting, looking at ~100 posts in the feed and the majority are bots, automated posts, or otherwise "brand" posts, not just regular people, and a few are Threads users or bridged Bluesky/Xitter accounts.

Doing a quick label:

That's getting close to the 5k character limit, but you get the idea. This has actually negatively influenced my opinion on fediverse activity. I didn't realize that such a high share of the activity wasn't actually just "normal users".

this is why I usually browse in new/comments/all, I just wish it had more than one page at a time or the ability to set more posts in one page

Friendica is good-ish for a fediverse option.

What do you hope to gain from leaving one Facebook to join another Facebook? Break the addiction. Free yourself from needing this in your life.

Bazoogle,

A social media platform to keep up with friends/family, while arguable not great (for comparison reasons), it not at all the same as what Facebook is right now. Facebook is no longer what it was originally created to be, it is just a dopamine slow drip.

graycube, in I need a Facebook replacement

Facebook Marketplace is my favorite part of Facebook. Thoughts about what might replace that?

classic,

Mercuri seems to be becoming more popular

catloaf,

Right up until it asks for ID, which you have to use the app for, and even if you send it nothing happens and your account remains disabled.

Ask me how I know. And that was for my very first purchase.

mesamunefire,

Not ironically craigslist never went away in some places.

I think the number of scammers went way up though

Bazoogle,

That also applies to FB marketplace

The active user base is trending slightly downward as a few instances have shut down recently but the amount of registered users is steadily increasing so those trends will reverse as the largest barrier to entry is just knowing about Lemmy and creating an account.

I browse Lemmy from Mbin, but frankly it seems like it's alive and growing to me.
