Interestingly, Gorelkin emphasized that the console should not merely serve as a platform for porting old games but also for popularizing domestic video games.

Apparently state-subsidized efforts have not yet popularized appropriate domestic games on their own.

Karma farming, much? lol

Yeah and owning the privilege to have games on Steam is any better.

You can use this FOSS tool to automatically claim those games.

github.com/vogler/free-games-claimer

Some even work pretty well on Linux using the Heroic Launcher.

Mora,

Does that still work? Last updated over a year ago and the free games are usually protected by some rather creative captchas.

Kecessa,

Never had to fill a captcha to get one of the free games

Bazoogle,

lol, it was last updated 3 days ago

I see the Valve bootlickers are out in force. How dare Epic fund indie games, what a bunch of bastards

overload, in Guy never bought a game on the Epic Store... Owns 200+

I bought Alan Wake 2, and glad I did. Accidentally decided to buy Red Dead redemption 2 on there because of a discount code making it much cheaper than steam a couple of years ago.

Huge mistake. I added it as a non-steam game so now to launch Red Dead redemption 2. I need to launch steam which then launches epic which then launches Rockstar Games launcher which then launches the game.

Kecessa,

You can skip one step and have just have many steps as if you had bought it on Steam, just launch it from the Epic launcher directly, ta-fucking-da

I stopped claiming epic freebies when I realized I ended up buying the game on steam anyway.

AceFuzzLord, in China's internet is upset that a knock-off of its darling video game, 'Black Myth: Wukong,' is listed on Nintendo's store

Imagine that! Popular game makes a ton of money and scam companies make shameless ripoffs to try and cash in on it? Never happened before and never will! /s

I may be wrong but Wukong itself looks a Souls knock-off, so I don't see the problem.

Aatube,

souls is a genre tho

that's the funny thing about genres and knock-offs, the only difference is scale. every game after pong is a knock-off of something that came before, and the great ones are the ones who purposefully or inadvertedly added something that made it a new standard for which to knock off, birthing a new genre. people hate terms like metroidvania or roguelike but imo those are the best genre names because they most clearly communicate the context and intent of the game

Cethin,

The first-person shooter genre used to be called Doom Clones because they were all viewed as rip offs of Doom (which, to be fair, many were). Genre conventions are created by copying what others have done. Souls is a game series, which has been so influential that it became a genre.

Are they upset or does western media constantly try to portray Chinese internet users as sensitive?

Does a company own the likeness of wukong? Seems kinda silly to be mad over that.

How long before the news reports the game was just stealing your data.

Joelio, in Coffeezilla does a third part of his CS:GO gambling expose...where he squarely puts the blame on Valve

Valve just needs a way to ensure you are over the age of 18, and I know a way they can do that WITHOUT collecting IDs. They need to incorporate an age quiz like leisure suit Larry.

_cryptagion,

Or just fucking turn off trading stupid weapon skins? Idk, seems like the bare fucking minimum of effort.

I played it when released to Gamepass and it got boring quickly so hopefully now there is more to it.

It is a beautiful looking game though.

As an old person who only kinda knew that lootboxes exist, this series was a huge eye opener to the insane amount of money and industry that has emerged around them. 10/10 would recommend to my fellow olds.

Now to head back to Bioshock where the only cost to looting boxes is that I might get attacked by a splicer.
