RememberTheApollo_, in Germany hits 62.7% renewables in 2024 energy mix, with solar contributing 14%

Meanwhile, the USA is 24%-ish renewables and 60%-ish fossil fuels. Damn fossil fuel industry and anti-progress politicians.

Great, new format wars. This time with expensive speaker setups!

Samsung and Google? Two companies well known for maintaining tech long term rather than getting bored within a few months.

HeroHelck,

Yeah I had a huge laugh, this is just gonna suck for the people who get suckered into it.

BassTurd, in Samsung, Google take on Dolby Atmos with new 'Eclipsa Audio'

Googles propensity to create and destroy tech at alarming rate aside, what is there to be gained in immersive audio? Atmos sounds borderline real in a good setup. What are the current limitations for high end HT audio that this is looking to improve upon?

hamsterkill,

I thought DTS:X was the (at least more) open version of Dolby Atmos.

BritishJ,

DTS X is much better than atoms. No channel or group limits etc.

But Dolby has already won the race. Cinemas are all Dolby Atmos, movies are, sound stages etc etc. They won the marketing race so they won out in the end.

rumba,

If you make it, they will come probably ignore it and continue to use non-free options.

If it works like subsidies over here, companies will just jack up prices to eat up the full subsidy.

I love it, I like it like my new contract they send me with new prices for electricity (44% up)

jatone,

Are you sure its the actual cost of the electricity or the fact that many other costs are often bundled into your bill?

Sniatch, (edited )

You should change your provider. I do it every year because thats how you can save lots of money.

UnderpantsWeevil,
@UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world avatar

Frustrating that these private energy companies can charge whatever they want (cough market rate is a scam cough) and you need to chase teaser rates year to year if you want to keep your electricity prices down.

Shame Western Europe lacks state owned municipalities obligated to sell at cost, rather than a colidascope of private firms looking to maximize the margin on every kWh sold.

unskilled5117,

Like others have mentioned, change your provider. Prices are going down again, as there have been advancements on installing renewables. Energy prices at the end of 2024 were 30,5% cheaper than at the start of 2023 (Source. This is the case even though we are paying more for the modernization of the grid, because renewables are that much cheaper than other sources.

realitista, in Germany hits 62.7% renewables in 2024 energy mix, with solar contributing 14%

Nice graph with no freaking labels.

One of the nicer upshots of cutting the cord with Russia is the sky high price of electricity incentivizing big investments in renewable energy.

romamix, in Is it possible to design a social media app or service that rather than focuses on farming engagement, it tries to promote quality content?

Professional communities with invite-only registration, where invites are only distributed to people with high ratings. Also you can add higher barriers, like a requirement to write a valuable on-topic to get rating above a certain level, regardless of the comment rating level. Basically a self-moderated narrowly focused community with invite only registration.

PonyOfWar, in Is it possible to design a social media app or service that rather than focuses on farming engagement, it tries to promote quality content?

Sure. But will it be profitable and will enough people want to use it? I think most likely the answer is no.

Nomecks, in Is it possible to design a social media app or service that rather than focuses on farming engagement, it tries to promote quality content?

The Somethingawful forums did exactly this with a $9.95 one time membership fee.

Reverendender,

How did it work out?

Nomecks,

They ran for years with minimal shit content and trolls.

Probably people who see a big banner about uBO no longer being supported in Chrom(e)ium
